Aligning 3D Models
The Trimble Connect 3D viewer uses the point of origin from most common 3D authoring tools. Some models may have different coordinates, such as Revit's Shared Coordinates, and will need to be aligned only once when uploaded in Trimble Connect for the life of that model. You can do this by using the align feature in the 3D viewer by clicking on align button.

Aligning The 3D Model

  1. Load the model that you wish to align in the 3D Viewer by selecting the Align icon under the model tree.
  2. The alignment tool allows you to adjust positioning, scaling, rotation angle and the transformation origin as shown below.

Change the Location and Rotation of a Model

You can change the location and rotation of a model by changing values in the model property pane.
If needed, you can change the used measurement units in the Settings dialog box.

  1. In the Models list , double-click the model whose location properties you want to change, or click .
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To move a model along the x axis, enter a value in the Position X box.
    • To move a model along the y axis, enter a value in the Position Y box.
    • To elevate a model, enter a value in the Elevation box.
    • To scale a model so that it appears larger or smaller in size, enter a value in the Scale box.
    • To rotate a model around the x axis, enter a value in the Rotation X box.
    • To rotate a model around the y axis, enter a value in the Rotation Y box.
    • To rotate a model around the z axis, enter a value in the Rotation Z box.

If you are not happy with the end result, click the  button to return the model to its original location.  If needed, you can change the used measurement units in the Settings dialog box.

Move the Model in 3D View

You can move a model by picking points in the 3D view, or by entering exact distances.

To move a model by picking points in the 3D view:

  1. In the Models list , double-click the model you want to move, or click .
  2. Click the  button.
  3. Optional: Clear the Elevation, X or Y check boxes to prevent model movement in that direction.
  4. Pick the start point. You can snap to corner points of objects.
  5. Pick a second point in the 3D view to see the distances from the start point and to move the model.
You can see the distances of the model movement in the Distance, Elevation, X and Y boxes.
  6. Click the  button to finish the moving.

Rotate the Model

You can rotate models around the z axis, y axis or in plane by picking points to define the rotation axis and the rotation angle.

  1. In the Models list , double-click the model you want to rotate, or click .
  2. Click the  button.
  3. Select whether to Rotate in plane, or Rotate around X or Rotate around Y.
  4. Pick a point to define the first point of the reference line. You can snap to corner points of objects.
  5. Pick a point to define the second point of the reference line.
  6. Pick to a point to define the rotation angle.
  7. Click the  button to finish the moving.
  8. If you are not happy with the end result, click the  button to return the model to its original location.
