How to Navigate 3D Models

3D Viewer Navigation
3D Navigation buttons are used for viewing 3D models. It contains camera features and tools helpful in the navigation.

Viewer Toolbar
The Viewer Toolbar contains helpful tools that assist in the navigation of the 3D model.

  •  - You can download a 3D model directly from the viewer.
  •   - This tool is used to orbit the model. Click on a point on the model and move the mouse to orbit. Orientation of the model will orbit around that point.
  •  - This is used to move the model vertically or horizontally. Select the button and click (and hold .
  •  - This is used to look around the model. Alternatively, use "CTRL + left mouse button" to use this feature.
  •  - This feature is used to walk inside the model. Alternatively, use "CTRL + right mouse button."
  •  - Preset views so you can view the model from different viewpoints i.e. axon, top, back etc.
  •  - Select any element on the model and click "zoom" to zoom into that element.
  •  - Select any element on the model and click this button to hide it.
  •  - The section plane can be used to cut away parts of the building and look inside.
  •  - Measurements can be taken using this tool.
  •  - Toggle displays list of elements in the model and allow you to hide/unhide each element in the model.
  •  - This is a markup cloud button used to markup an element in the model.
  •  - Use this tool for the specific coloring of the markup cloud. It will be helpful in recognizing the markup for a particular user.
  •  - This is used to markup an element and add text to the model.
  •  - An arrow can be used to indicate an element of the model.
  •  - A line can be used to highlight a part of the model.
  •  - The ToDo button will be helpful after a markup has been selected on the model. After creating the markup use a ToDo to highlight issues that need action in the model.
  •  - By clicking this button, the model will return back to its original position.

To see your model from virtually any angle, you can move, rotate and pan the view.

To Do this
Rotate around a point Pick a point around which the view rotates.

When you are rotating around a point, the pointer symbol looks like this:  

If you rotate around a point using the navigation circle, the view rotates around the middle point of the view.

TIP You can rotate in increments by dragging the pointer in the 3D view and then holding down the Ctrl key.
Zoom the view Scroll the mouse wheel, use the zoom slider, or if using a tablet, pinch two fingers.

When you are zooming, the pointer symbol changes accordingly:
Zoom in: 
Zoom out:  
Alternatively, use can use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.

Zoom in on an object

To zoom in on an object using the mouse:
Move the pointer over the object and double-click the object.
The Objects list is opened and the object is selected in the Objects list.

To zoom in on an object using the pop-up menu:
1. Right-click the object in the 3D view.
2. Select Fit to View from the pop-up menu.

To zoom in on an object using the Fit to View  
button:
1. Select the object.

2. On the 3D view toolbar, click .


To zoom in on an object using the keyboard shortcut:
1. Select the object.
2. Press Space bar.

Pan the view Pan to move around in the 3D view.
When you are panning the view, the pointer symbol looks like this:
Look around When you look around, the view rotates in position. When you are looking around, the pointer symbol
looks like this:
Turn a view perpendicular to an object plane 1. Go over an object.
2. Hold down the Alt key.
3. Double-click the desired plane.
View model in full-screen mode  Press F11 or click .
To exit the full-screen mode, click , or press F11 or
Esc.

Navigation Control Buttons
You can use the navigation control buttons to select the navigation mode and to navigate in the 3D view. The navigation control buttons are mainly intended to be used with tablets.

 

Navigation button Description
Rotate mode
Rotate around the selected point. Alternatively, use keyboard shortcut Ctrl+U.
Pan mode
Move around in the 3D view.
Alternatively, use keyboard shortcut Ctrl+I.
Walk mode
Rotate in position and zoom in the 3D view. Useful in walking inside buildings, for example.
Alternatively, use keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O.
Look around mode
Rotate in position.
Alternatively, use keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P.
Full-screen
View your models in the full-screen mode.
Navigation circle
Navigate in the model view according to the selected navigation mode.
Use the navigation circle to rotate around a point in 22,5 degree increments.
Zoom
Click the buttons or drag the slider to zoom in and out in the 3D view.

TIP
You can hide the navigation control buttons by clearing the Show Navigation Control Buttons check box in the Settings dialog box.
When the navigation control buttons are not shown, the rotate around point navigation mode is active.

Controls in navigation modes
Selecting a navigation mode affects the behavior of mouse and touch controls. The table below shows the controls in each navigation mode.

Trimble Connect Mobile

All selected models in the project folder will get displayed in the 3D Viewer when you tap the green-colored eye icon .   

Note - You need to download the 3d files on your mobile in order to view them in 3d viewer.

 - This icon is used to view current model(s) added to the viewer. Different layers can also be seen for the model(s) which can be further used to hide/unhide layers.

 - Tap this icon to create a view.

 - Tap this icon to create a ToDo.

 - Tap this icon to search an object from his property.

 - Tap this icon to reset the base elevation of the model to (0,0,0), i.e., origin of the models is setto displacement along x-axis=0, y-axis=0, and z-axis=0.

 - Tap this icon to position the models as per last view captured.

 - Tap this icon to reset all models in the 3D Viewer with reference to their original position.

 

Hand gestures

You can use the hand gestures for zoom-in, rotate, and select functionalities.

  1. You can use the two finger zoom-in and zoom-out feature on 3D models
  2. You can use the press and slide your finger to rotate the 3D models in any direction.
  3. You can use the tap screen method to select any part of the 3d model in 3D Viewer.
